William "Bill" J. Harris, age 72, of Ogallala, passed away, Thursday, January 16, 2020, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Bill was born to Jack and Marie (Kallhoff) Harris on June 22, 1947 in Dalton, Nebraska.
The family then moved to Omaha, NE. Bill attended St. Pious X Grade School in Omaha. He was very proud of serving as an Altar Boy for the Parrish. The family moved from Omaha to Julesburg, CO. in Bill's freshman year of school and he graduated in 1965.
He went into the Navy and was aboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Hancock. He was a part of the flight deck crew. He was a Vietnam Veteran. After he got out of the Navy, he moved to Denver, CO., where he lived for several years and became a car salesman. He moved back to Ogallala and went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired years later and resided in Ogallala and did volunteer work for the Senior Citizens serving meals, and other organizations. He was a very active member in the Moose Lodge and enjoyed his time there and made many friends. Bill never knew a stranger and always had a punch line in the conversation that he had with other people.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill will be missed and lovingly remembered by his brother Burton and wife, Brenda Harris, of Sidney; sister, Jacque Saari, of McGregor, MN; 2 nephews; Jack and wife, Brandee Harris, of Sidney; Matthew and wife, Ashley Harris, of Snohomish, WA; 1 niece, Angela Borgman, of Sidney; great-nephews; Logan, Calvin and Jett; and great-nieces; Naomi, Brealey and Elyse.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel.
A rosary will be recited, Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in the St. Luke's Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest officiating.
Interment will follow at 2:30 pm in the Dalton, Cemetery, Dalton Ne. with Military Honors from the American Legion and Son of American Legion Post 301 of Dalton, Nebraska and The United States Navy Honor Guard Team.
Memorials are suggested to the Disabled Americans Veteran and Shriners Hospital.
