Vernon (Gene) Spencer Obituary

Vernon Eugene Spencer 85 of Lewellen, Nebraska passed away at Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Nebraska on Friday, September 10th, 2021.
Gene was born August 31st, 1936 in White County, Illinois.  He was welcomed into this world by his parents Vernon and Hazel Spencer.  He was later joined by one brother Raymond and two sisters Ruth Ann and Virginia Lee.  Their father was killed in a horse accident on July 2nd, 1951 when Gene was 14.  After his father passed, his mother and siblings moved in with their grandparents.
Gene graduated in 1953 from Crossville High School in Crossville, Illinois.  Shortly after graduation he moved to Montana for work and later to Colorado.
There he met and married Margaret (Kauder) Bigley and they were married on July 8th, 1958 In Raton, New Mexico.  Marge had two daughters Pamela Sue and Dixie Lea from a previous marriage.  Gene adopted and raised the girls as his own.  In January 1959 they welcomed a daughter Penny Jolene into their family.  In August 1960 Brett Eugene was born, finally a son.  Kay Lynn was born October 1961 and completed the family.
Gene began his career with Halliburton Oilfield Services in Sterling, Colorado in 1961.  Over the next few years, they were transferred to Wyoming, Colorado, back to Wyoming, and then back to Colorado again.  He retired after 30 years of service, and he and Marge moved to Lake McConaughy, Nebraska for their retirement.  In December 1995, while visiting friends in Arkansas Marge become ill, and passed on December 21st, she was 64 years old.
In 2000 he met and married Diane.  They celebrated 21 years this year.  Together they enjoyed visiting family and friends and running their Kettle Corn business at craft shows.
He is survived by his wife Diane, one sister Ruth Ann Williams of Crossville, Illinois, two sisters-in-law’s Mary Alice Spencer of Crossville, Illinois and Margaret Kauder of Longmont, Colorado.  His children Pam Cullip of Sterling Colorado, Penny Ray (Bruce) of Sterling Heights Michigan, Brett Spencer of Lewellen, Nebraska/ Charleston, South Carolina, and Kay Lynn Gill (Bill) of Rock Springs, Wyoming.  Eleven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by parents, Wife Margaret, brother Raymond, sister Virginia Barnett and daughter Dixie Lee Adams. 
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel from 9:00am to 6:00pm, with the family greeting friends from 4:00pm-6:00pm. 
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 10:00am from the Church of Christ with, Bobby Brueggeman and Loy Baumann officiating. 
Interment will be in the Ash Hollow Cemetery following the services.
Memorials have been established in his memory.
