Dr. Kenneth Norton Howard, loving husband and father of 3 boys, age 89, of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, November 14th, 2020 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Ken "Doc" was born December 6, 1930 in Gering, Nebraska to George and Goldie (Randall) Howard.
Ken became an Eagle Scout at 15. He lettered in both track and football his junior and senior years. Upon graduation he joined the Navy in 1948.
In 1952 he went on to dental school at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry at Lincoln. Ken was a member of the Crescent fraternity and Xi Psi Phi.
Ken married Dorothy Rice of Scotts Bluff June 6,1954 and upon Ken's graduation in 1958 they, and son David, moved to Ogallala. Ken practiced dentistry for 34 years having 2 other sons Steven and Robert "Bob". Dorothy passed away November 2, 2014.
Ken's interests included Corn Husker football, boxing, wood working, sail boating, RC airplanes, photography, fishing, hunting, camping, organ, chess, computer, and traveling. He was a Boy Scout leader and volunteered dental services in Belize Central America.
Ken is survived by 3 sons; David, of Lodgepole, NE; Steven, of Ogallala; and Robert, of Delaware, Ohio; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife; parents; an older sister Carolyn and younger brother Chuck.
Visitation and family greeting friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the Draucker Funeral Home. State mandated social distancing and masks will be required.
A Graveside Service will be held, 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18 , 2020 at the Ogallala Cemetery with Rev. Chuck Rager of the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala officiating.
Interment will be held in the Ogallala Cemetery with Navy Military Honors.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
