Kenneth John Asche, 88, of Ogallala, NE passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Ogallala Community Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was born in rural Huntley, NE on August 6, 1934 to Otto Paul and Louise Marilyn (Jurgens) Asche. He attended school in Huntley, eventually graduating from Huntley High School. Following high school, he worked jobs around the farm and throughout the community until joining Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman. He worked throughout Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota. In 1955, he was united in marriage to Pearl (Beyersdorf) Laycock. They were blessed with four children; Susan, Debra, Nancy, and Paul. They first made their home in Holdrege, NE and a short time later moved to Ogallala. Ken and Pearl were later divorced.
In 1971, Ken married Ophelia (Holliman) Asche and they resided in Ogallala. He was employed by Northwestern Bell until they split with AT&T and he later retired. He was an agent with Farmers Insurance Group. He established Asche Telephone Service. He was the former owner of The House of Bottles store and Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell, NE. He was also an Amway Distributor. Ken enjoyed numerous activities, such as fishing, boating, hunting, gardening, yard care, coin collecting, watching sports, bowling, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of the Pioneers of America.
Ken was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala. He regularly listened to and supported the radio broadcast of Sunday services from St. Paul’s.
Left to cherish his memory are: his children, Debra Brouillette (Scot Richards) of Osceola, NE, Nancy (Rev. John) Manweiler of St. George, UT, Paul (Terri) Asche of Grand Island, NE, son-in-law Earl (Susan) Smith of Grand Island, NE, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and two great -great grandchildren. In addition, his family included step-daughter Maria Morava of Ogallala, NE with their family of 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 13 great -great grandchildren.
Memorial services are Thursday, October 6th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE.
Reverend Albert Bader will be officiating.
Memorials have been established in Ken's memory to St. Paul's Lutheran church and later designation by the family.
Inurnment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery at a later date.
