Virginia Patterson, 93, of Ogallala, died Friday, August 23, 2013. in Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. Virginia was born October 26, 1919, in North Platte, the daughter of Samuel and Ona (Severns) Hilliard. After graduating from high school in Wilcox, Nebr., she attended cosmetology school in Omaha. She was a homemaker and later was employed as a dietary helper at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Virginia was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and served as Chaplain of the Ogallala Does for several years. Her hobbies included watching baseball, knitting, embroidering, and baking cookies. She enjoyed going to T.O.P.S. and volunteered in the Visitors Center with the RSVP. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother Jack Hilliard, a sister Nadine Wilson, and a grandson Luke Miller. Survivors include her son Gary (Donna) Patterson of Wichita, Kan., her daughter Cheri (Joe) Bailey of Lexington, Nebr., one brother Sam (Sharon) Hilliard of Roscoe. Also six grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family chose cremation and requested no visitation. The Memorial Service will be Thursday, August 29, at 10 a.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Patterson of The Cornerstone Church of Wichita, Kan. will officiate. Inurnment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Golden Ours Convalescent Home.
