Viola Riedel, 79, longtime Ogallala resident, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Indian Hills Healthcare Community. Viola was born June 3, 1935, in Keystone, the daughter of John and Blanche (Osborn) Leake. The family moved to Arapahoe in 1936 and resided there until 1952 when they moved to Ogallala. In December 1954 Viola married Harold Riedel and the couple made their home in Ogallala. She was employed as a nurses aid in the Ogallala Community Hospital. Viola later became an X-ray technician and held the position until her retirement. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Harold Riedel, sister Shirley Leake, and three brothers George, Elmer, and Clifford. Survivors include her son Michael (Eileen) Riedel, two grandsons: Timothy Riedel and Patrick (Shelby) Riedel; three granddaughters: Amber (Jason) Grafford, and Kylee Riedel, all of Ogallala; and Shawna Riedel of North Platte. Also five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Cremation was chosen. The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. Rev. Chuck Rager of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. A private Committal Service will take place at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Ogallala Community Hospital.
