Velma Morrow, 95, of Ogallala, died Friday, January 29, 2016, at Indian Hills Healthcare Community. Velma Louise Morrow was born November 26, 1920, at Sarben, Nebraska, the daughter of Samuel and Julia (McConnell) Zimmerman. Until 4 1/2 years of age she lived with her parents at the Kinkaid home north of Big Springs. In 1925 the family moved to a farm six miles northwest of Big Springs. She received her early education at country School District #42. Velma graduated from Big Springs High School in 1938. After graduation she began teaching in rural schools and attending college summer sessions for teachers. In 1950 Velma married Robert Morrow and the couple lived in the foothills near Sedalia, Colorado. Later she returned to the Big Springs area where she lived until moving to Ogallala in 2002. Special interests were reading, writing, music, flowers and gardening. She enjoyed taking an active part in the AARP group in Big Springs. Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers: Marvin Zimmerman and Elvin Zimmerman; and a sister-in-law Mary Ann Zimmerman-Adams. Survivors include her sister-in-law Mildred Zimmerman of Ogallala, nephews, nieces and friends. She was cremated at her request. A family memorial service will be held on Friday, February 5, at 2 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The Rev. Nora Mendyk of the Grant United Methodist Church will officiate. The Service will be streamed live from drauckerfuneralhome.com, for those unable to attend. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
