Theresa M. Taylor

Theresa M. Taylor, 85, longtime Ogallala resident, died Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the Ogallala Community Hospital. Theresa was born July 30, 1928 in Valentine, Nebr. She was the youngest of seven children born to John and Mary (Rhinehart) Smith. She grew up in Valentine and graduated from high school there in 1946. She worked in the local grocery store in Valentine during her high school years and during World War II. Theresa married Charles L. Taylor on July 23, 1949 in Ainsworth. The couple lived in Valentine where Theresa continued to work at the local grocery store. They resided in Bloomfield, Nebr. a short time before moving to Boelus in 1955. Later on they moved to Ainsworth where Theresa worked at the Bula's Cafe and at the Ainsworth Livestock Cafe for Luke and Wilma Fowler. In February 1963 Theresa and Charles and their two sons relocated to Ogallala. Theresa was employed at Lee's Store for many years. She also worked for Bertha Bunch at the More Value Stamp Store and for Ken and Doris Hickam at the Gambles Store. Her hobbies included reading, watching Husker football, gardening, cooking, and sewing. She especially enjoyed her family and friends. Preceding her in death was her husband, her parents, three sisters: May Smith, Julia Ross, and Erma Wray; and three brothers: Mike, John, and Elmer. Survivors include two sons: Leonard (Glenda) Taylor of Ogallala and Wayne (Chris) Taylor of Wahoo. Also eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. The family chose cremation. The Memorial Service will be Thursday, February 27, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ogallala First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating. Inurnment with graveside services will take place in the Ainsworth Cemetery on Friday, February 28, at 10:30 a.m. Central Time. A memorial has been established in her name.
