Terry M. Vasa, 55, longtime Arthur County rancher, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in the Ogallala Community Hospital. Terry was born June 21, 1958 in Ogallala, the son of Joseph and Carole (Rohlfing) Vasa. He attended School District 55 in Arthur County. After graduating from Arthur County High School in 1976 he attended Chadron State College. In 1978 he returned to Arthur. On June 2, 1979 he was united in marriage to Frances Sherman of rural Valentine. The couple made their home on the family ranch. Terry enjoyed helping his children start their own cattle herds to continue their ranching heritage. He was a good steward of the land and had a passion for feeding out and finishing the cattle. His hobbies included going to farm and livestock auctions and he especially liked antique tractors. He was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church and served as an Arthur County Commissioner. Preceding him in death was his father, his son Kevin Vasa in 1989, and two sisters: Mary Beth and Katherine. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 3, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home followed by the Rosary Service at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 10 a.m. MSTin the Arthur High School gymnasium. Rev. Bryan Ernest of St. Lukes Catholic Church will officiate. Interment is in the Arthur Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Frances Vasa; two sons: Marty (Mandy) Vasa and Bradley Vasa, all of Arthur; two daughters: Katie (Darin) Robertson of Elsie and Sammie Jo (Joe) Ferguson of Grove, Okl. His mother Carole Vasa of Ogallala. One brother Steve (Lisa) Vasa of Arthur and four sisters: Sheila (Doug) Canning of Ogallala, Lisa (Larry) Wood of Moscow, ID, Julie Hart of North Platte, and Marcy (Tom) Evangelisti of Blair. Also four grandchildren: Hannah, Trey, and Ashley Robertson and Nash Ferguson and expectant granddaughter Peyton Ferguson. Memorials have been established to the Arthur Betterment Foundation and the Arthur County Ag Society.
