Suzanne "Suzi" Peterson

Suzanne "Suzi" Peterson, 88, longtime Perkins County resident, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. Suzi was born November 10, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Thomas and Kathryn (Young) Higgins. When she was a young child the family moved to Lincoln, NE Suzi attended Hawthorn Elementary School. Later the family moved to Williston, ND where they ranched. That area later became Roosevelt National Park. When Suzi was twelve years old she moved with her family to Dillon, CO. where she attended junior high school. Suzi attended high school in Breckenridge, CO. but moved to Cincinnati, OH to live with her aunt. She graduated from Cincinnati High School in 1944. Suzi returned to Dillon, CO. to attend college in Colorado Springs. During a break from college she met Eldon A. Peterson when he traveled from Nebraska to purchase hay from Suzi's father. On October 29, 1948 Suzi married Eldon Peterson in Ogallala at the Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home on the Peterson family farm northeast of Grant. Eldon and Suzi operated a custom combine crew for two years traveling from Texas to Montana. They moved In 1957 to a house on an adjoining section of the farm and continued to reside there. During the late 1960's Suzi became the banquet hostess at the Ogallala Holiday Inn and held that position for more than thirty years. Her hobbies included gardening and canning vegetables, and she was an avid sports fan. Suzi was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death was her husband, son-in-law Tim Nelson, and her sister Patricia Higgins. Survivors include three sons: Grant Peterson, Elliott (Angela) Peterson, all of Grant; and Miles (Rita) Peterson of Alva, OK. Two daughters: Pamela (Jeff) Jacobson of Lincoln and Deborah Nelson of Salt Lake City, UT. Seven grandsons: T J Nelson of Salt Lake City, UT; Grant M. Peterson, Grady J. Peterson, and Guy L. Peterson, all of Alva, OK; Sim T. Jacobson of Lincoln, NE; Storm T. Peterson and Jet R. Peterson, both of Grant, NE. Three granddaughters: Jessica P. Jacobson of Kansas City, MO; Kathryn S. Nelson and Christine "Anni" Nelson, both of Salt Lake City, UT. The family chose cremation. The Memorial Service will be Friday, September 5, at 11 a.m. in the Grant United Methodist Church with Rev. Nora Mendyk officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name.
