Shirley Frerichs

Shirley Frerichs, 82, of Ames, Iowa and formerly of Denver, Colorado, died Thursday, December 31, 2015, in the Israel Family Hospice in Ames, Iowa.

Shirley was born December 29, 1933 in Pukwana, South Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Gladys (Stahnke) Ommen. She graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1952. She then moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked for Ryder Trucks in the accounting department.

In 1965 Shirley married Donald Frerichs at Grace Lutheran Church in Denver. The couple resided in Lincoln, Nebraska until 1969 when they moved with new daughter Leslie to Chadron, Nebraska.

They resided in Chadron where daughters Erin and Amy were born. They returned to Denver in 1985 and Shirley worked as a personal banker for US Bank until her retirement.

In 2008 Shirley moved in with her daughter and son-in-law Erin and Layne Billings in Lehi, Utah and moved with them to Ames, Iowa in 2012.

Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and sister who put her love for God and family before all. She enjoyed watching football and was an avid Cornhusker and Broncos fan.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Donald in 1995, and four brothers: Jerome, Robert, Ross, and Keith.

Survivors include her three daughters: Leslie (Rich) Brown of Orange Park, FL, Erin (Layne) Billings of Ames, IA, and Amy (Michael) Hernon of Algonquin, IL; brother-in-law Howard (Ardith) Frerichs of Ogallala; three sisters-in-law: Doris Frerichs of Grant, Darlene Ommen of Aurora, CO and Mary Ommen, both of Aurora, CO. Nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral Services will be Friday, January 8th at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church, Southwest of Ogallala with Rev. Wayne Pick officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 7th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Draucker Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Star Legacy Foundation of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The funeral will be live streamed for those unable to attend. Online condolences may be sent to webmaster@drauckerfh.com.
