Sam Gill

Sam Gill, 82, Big Springs native resident, passed away Friday, December 5, 2014, with his family beside him, in the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo. Sam was born December 3, 1932 in Big Springs, the son of Frank and Amelia (Hassler) Gill. He graduated from Big Springs High School in 1951. He lived his entire life in Big Springs except from 1956 through 1959 when he served in the United States Army in Germany. On September 8, 1962 Sam was united in marriage to Leona R. Price in Zion Lutheran Church. Sam was employed at the Texaco Oil Co. until it closed. Then he became manager at the Bosselman Truck Plaza. After 42 years he retired in January 2012. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Big Springs where he had been baptized and confirmed. Sam loved his family, his work, and his pets. After retirement he enjoyed driving around Big Springs every day checking out the town. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Naomi Robb Meyer and a daughter-in-law Michelle Gill. Survivors include his wife Leona Gill of Big Springs, and his children: Vincent (Pat) Gill of North Platte, Julie (Scott) Ingram of Julesburg, Colo., Kathy (Stan) Haag of Littleton, Colo., and Sam (Janet) Gill of Ogallala. Three brothers: Don (Kay) Gill of Shelton, Bob (Lola) Gill of Salt Lake City, UT., and Lowell (Sheila) Gill of Murray, UT. One sister: Audry Murray of Holyoke, CO; Eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; special nephew Dean (Diane) Robb of Arvada, Colo. several nieces and nephews and many friends. The family chose cremation. The memorial service will be Thursday, December 11, at 10 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church in Big Springs with Rev. Trenton Christensen officiating. Inurnment is in the Big Springs Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska Military Honors Team. A memorial has been established in his memory.
