Russell B. Richardson, 70, of Ogallala, died Monday, October 6, 2014, in Great Plains Health of North Platte. Russell was born August 13, 1944, in Burke, So. Dakota, the son of Leon and Twila (Hitchcock) Richardson. He received his early education at Spotted Tail elementary school near Jamison, Nebraska. After graduating from Burke High School in 1962 he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. On June 15, 1965 Russell entered the United States Navy and served on the USS Robert A. Owens, stationed at Norfolk, Virg. Following his discharge in 1969 he farmed with his family in Keya Paha County in Nebraska for eight years. On December 1, 1989, Russell was united in marriage to Barbara Campbell at Hastings, Nebr. The couple resided in Ogallala. Russell was a truck driver for several years before purchasing his own truck in 1994. Barbara joined him in the business, namely Richardson Trucking, and they became team drivers, going coast to coast. He was a member of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion. His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, and taking care of his yard and flowers. Preceding him in death were his parents. The family chose cremation. A memorial service will be Saturday, November 15, at 11 a.m. in the Ogallala First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Keith County Veterans Organization. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Barbara A. Richardson of Ogallala, two sons: Robert Richardson and (his wife Katherine DeRosear) of Midiothian, VA., and Brett (Erin) Richardson of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters: Kristin (Jeff) Brouk of Highlands Ranch, CO. and Mandy (Dean) Dowson of Denver, CO. Four sisters: Beverly (Dale) Hettinger of Alamosa, Colo., Nancy (Randy) Reese of Pleasanton, Nebr., Marilyn Richardson of Copperopolis, Cal., and Merna Richardson (husband Larry Wright) of San Mateo, Cal. and seven grandchildren.
