Philip C. Galaviz

Philip C. Galaviz, 94, longtime Brule resident, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Indian Hills Healthcare Community in Ogallala. Philip was born December 28, 1922, in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Augustine and Julia (Chavez) Galaviz. On September 27, 1943 he was united in marriage to Victoria Jimenez with whom he shared fifty years until her death in 1993. They made their home in Brule, Nebraska. Philip had a 21 year career with Union Pacific Railroad. He then worked in farming and the Keith County Department of Roads. Philip also operated a lawn service. He was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church. His hobbies included gardening and spending time with his family. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Victoria, an infant son, his daughter Eva Bock, several siblings, grandson Justin, and son-in-law Allyn Chambers. Survivors include his children: Philip, Jr., Connie Chambers, Larry (Jo), Jerry (JoAnn), Vicki Podoll, Mary Lou (Kevin) Hughes, and Cathy Kinder (Layne), as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, January 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. in St. Lukes Catholic Church, followed by the Wake and Rosary Service at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 23, at 10 a.m. in St. Lukes Catholic Church, preceded by Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Father Matt Koperski is the Celebrant. The Mass service will be live streamed from drauckerfuneralhome.com, for those unable to attend. Interment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the family for later designation. Online condolences may be sent to drauckerfuneralhome.com.
