Mildred M. Buettenback

Mildred M. Buettenback, 88, longtime Ogallala resident, died June 14, 2015, at Indian Hills Healthcare Community. Mildred was born March 8, 1927, in Omaha and was adopted by A. P.and Effie (Gray) Moore. The family lived in Brule where Mildred attended school, graduating from Brule High School in 1945. She received an Associate's Degree in 1947 from Parks Business College in Denver, Colo. On April 10, 1949 Mildred was united in marriage to Jack Gene Buettenback. They lived in Brule until Jack entered the Army. They lived in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas for two years and then returned to Brule. They then built a new home in Ogallala where they resided thereafter. Mildred worked at the Bank of Brule for several years. She then worked as a secretary in the Ogallala Methodist Church from 1954 to 1960, for the Rev. Don Littrell. She then was a homemaker and in 1979 she became employed at Sixth Street Food Store. She was a 50+ year member of the UCC First Congregational Church and was involved in many activities. Mildred served on the funeral dinner committee and volunteered at the Jumble Shop. Her hobbies included doing word search and jumble word puzzles and visiting shut-ins through RSVP. She volunteered at the Keith County Senior Center delivering meals on wheels. Her favorite past time was working in the yard, trimming, mowing, and pruning flowers. Mildred loved to make it a show place. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Jack on Sept. 11, 2003, one sister Mary Marguirite and her husband Merlin Kenfield, Jack's parents Dewey and Faye Buettenback, and brother-in-law Cleo Buettenback. Survivors include her daughter Marsha and her fiance Joe Littrell, of Scottsbluff; brothers-in-law Bob (Earline) Buettenback of Crestwood, MO and Randy (Brenda) Buettenback of Julesburg, Colo.; sisters-in-law Zorie (Wes) Bills of Ft. Morgan, Colo. and Charlotte Buettenback of Grand Island; and numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately call Mildred 'Top Sarge.' There was cremation. The Memorial Service is set for Saturday, September 12, at 11 a.m. in the Ogallala UCC, First Congregational Church. The Revs. Lisa Hadler and Phil Ewert will officiate. Memorials have been established to the Church or to Indian Hills Healthcare Community.
