Melvin G. Johnson

Melvin G. Johnson, age 96, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala. Melvin was born Dec. 7, 1920 to August and Gunda Johnson on the farm near Mohall, North Dakota. Melvin attended schools in Lansford, N.D. In 1942 Melvin became part of the civilian signal core stationed in Eastern Nebraska. In the mid 1940's he moved to Ogallala to work for Good-All Electric. He met Ruth Eichner while working at Good-All Electric. They were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on December 19, 1946. They made their home in Ogallala until moving to their farm north of Roscoe in the 1960's. Melvin continued to work for TRW formerly Good-All Electric until his retirement from TRW in 1982. They continued to live on the farm until 2010 when they moved back to Ogallala. They were lifetime members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Melvin in his younger years enjoyed racing cars. He also enjoyed farming, entertaining the grandchildren outdoors, and playing cards with family and neighbors. His sense of humor was contagious with everyone he met. Survivors include wife Ruth of Ogallala, 2 daughters Beverly (Lonnie) Duensing of Beatrice, NE. and Jody (Mike) Brown of Paola, Kansas. 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were 4 Brothers Jim, Art, Clarence and John and 2 sisters Joyce Larson and Ovedia Jensen. Visitation will be Wednesday October 4th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with the family greeting friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Draucker Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Thursday Oct 5 at 10:00 am from St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Rev Ben Francisco of Grant's Zion Lutheran Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church and School in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be sent by signing the Guest Book. Services will be Live streamed for those unable to attend. Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala is entrusted with the arrangements.
