Marlene M. Brown, a former long time resident of Ogallala, NE passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 14, 2016 at her home in Fort Lupton, CO., at the age of 84. Marlene was born in Ogallala on March 28, 1932. The granddaughter of Swedish pioneers, Gustave and Anna Linquist, who settled and helped to develop Keith County in the early 20th century, Marlene and her twin sister, Arlene, grew up on a beautiful farm outside of Ogallala. They attended a one-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade. After graduating from Ogallala High School, Marlene attended Stephens College in Colombia, MO. In September 1950, Marlene married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Brown. Marlene and Marvin had two children: Travis and Diana. Marlene was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and daughter who enjoyed caring for her family. A talented cook, Marlene loved learning and cooking new recipes for her family and friends. She was also a talented seamstress, creating exquisitely detailed baby clothes for new family members. Along with her husband, Marlene often traveled across Nebraska attending woodcarving meetings and conferences. Marlene was an active community member, especially within the First United Methodist Church. Marlene took special pride in maintaining her familys farming tradition, and she and Marvin lived on their family farm for 55 years. Marlene is preceded in death by Marvin Brown, her husband of 55 years; her son, Travis Brown; her daughter, Diana Green; her parents, Paul and Elsie (Linquist) Walker; her brother Howard Walker; her in-laws, William F. and Margie Brown; her cousin, Charles Linquist; her brothers-in-law, Harold Westover and Loland "Dick" Lenhart; and sister-in-law Julana Lenhart; nephews John Lenhart, Richard Lenhart, Dennis Lenhart, Alan Lenhart and niece Donna Frame. Marlene is survived by her twin sister, Arlene Walker Westover, of Fort Worth, TX; her grandchildren Mallory Anne and husband Rahn Richards of Fort Collins, CO, Heide Michelle Brown and Jim Scharf of Brighton CO, Justin Green of Stillwater, IA and David Green of Denver CO; her great-grandchildren Carter Travis Beas-Brown and Rowan Travis Richards; her daughter-in law Michelle Brown of Brighton CO; Her son-in-law Jim Green of Des Moines, IA; her cousin Marilyn (Linquist) Horner of New Jersey; and her nieces and nephews, Paula Doty of Lafayette, CO; Scott Westover of Fort Morgan, CO; Lori Weber of Fort Worth, TX; Lana Uselton of Arlington, TX; and Theresa Lenhart of Moore, OK. The family chose cremation. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:30AM at First United Methodist Church, Ogallala NE. with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating.
