Marlene Louise Garrelts

Marlene Louise Garrelts passed away suddenly in Aurora, Colorado on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the age of 75.

She was welcomed into heaven by her infant sister Leila, her father Harley, her mother Emma, and her brother Larry. Marlene is survived by her brother, Merlin (wife, Judy) of Houston, Texas, sister-in-law Peggy of Ogallala, Nebraska, nephew Tony (wife, Kimberly) of Johnston, Iowa, nephew Jay of Ogallala, niece Emma of Houston, and nephew Joseph of Denver, Colorado.

Marlene was born on April 3, 1949, in Sidney, Nebraska. Her family settled in Ogallala at a young age, and she graduated from Ogallala High School in 1967. After working at the Ogallala Credit Bureau, she moved to Denver where she pursued a career as a customer agent and benefits advisor for several large companies. Upon retiring and moving to Julesburg, Colorado in 2014, she volunteered in numerous capacities in the Sedgwick County area, notably at the Colorado Welcome Center on I-76 where she recently received a Governor’s Award for Outstanding Tourism Volunteer.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., March 15, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 312 West 3rd St, in Ogallala, Nebraska with Rev. Albert Bader officiating.

Inurnment will follow at the Ogallala Cemetery with a luncheon at the church immediately thereafter.

Marlene’s faith in God was powerful.

She collected volumes of spiritual, inspirational books, and study guides in the unshakable belief that God’s hand was guiding her life.

Marlene was unafraid of the uncertainties that life brought her way, she trusted that God was comforting and loving her every day.
