Former longtime Ogallala resident, Marilyn M. Engel, 87, died Sunday March 30, 2014, at the Life Care Center in Longmont, Colorado. She was born May 21, 1926 in Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Borgen) Bailey. Marilyn attended schools in Wisconsin before moving to Ogallala in 1946. On August 20, 1947, she married Dale Herman Engel. They made their home on the family farm south of Ogallala, raising a family and being a devoted grandparent with Dale. After farming for many years they moved into Ogallala in 1970. Marilyn was employed in several businesses around Ogallala after they retired from the farm. In 2012 she moved to Colorado due to health. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband Dale Engel in 2013, her son Clifford Engel in 1984, and a grandson Brian Engel in 1992. Survivors include her children Kenneth Engel and his wife Connie of Firestone, Colo.; Russell Engel and his wife Julie of Yuma, Ariz.; and Laurel and her husband Hal Schroeder of Austin, Tex.; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, April 7, from 10:00 am -1:00 pm at the Draucker Funeral Home. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory.
