Marilyn Charlotte Hampton

July 27, 1937 — April 26, 2025

Marilyn Charlotte (Conrey) Hampton, age 87 of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.


Marilyn was born on July 27th, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the first child of Rolland Wise and Marion Elizabeth (Auld) Conrey. She attended Minne Lusa Elementary School. She then graduated from 8th grade at Washington Grade School, going on to graduate from Omaha Central High School.


Marilyn was quite an accomplished piano player and played with her parents in several jazz bands and many school music events. She worked at the Bell Telephone Company in Omaha, achieving the position of Chief Stenographer. During that time, she met Harold “Sonny” Hampton at a local dance. Marilyn and Sonny loved music and loved to dance. They were very talented on the dance floor. They were married on October 19th, 1961, in Ogallala. They lived in Grand Island for a short time before moving to Ogallala. Marilyn was employed in several different occupations after she and Sonny moved to Ogallala, starting with babysitting neighborhood children. She also worked at various businesses in Ogallala, including Humphreys Auto Supply, until her retirement. After her retirement, she was active working the front desk at the Keith County Senior Center, attending Red Hat functions, going out to dine with her girlfriends, and visiting her family.


Marilyn is survived by her children, Julie (Bruce) Forrester of Broken Bow, Nebraska; John (Margaret) Hampton of Elizabeth, Colorado; and Judie (Bruce) Kramer of Tryon, Nebraska. Her grandchildren, Morgan Hampton of Denver, Colorado and Christopher (Brittni) Hampton of Centennial, Colorado; Samantha Kramer (Fiancé Kyle Norman) of North Platte, Emily Kramer (Kyle Likes) of Tryon, Nebraska, and Allison (Lester) Medina of Kearney Thomas (Kaitlyn) Kramer of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Chase (Tori) Forrester of Kearney, Nebraska, and Robert Forrester of Broken Bow, Nebraska. Nieces Kathy (Dennis) O’Dell of Missouri, Carma (Dwayne) Weisbrook of Bushnell, Nebraska; Karen Lee of Tucson, Arizona; Kim (Tom) Stevens of Jacksonville, Florida, and Nephews, George (Leslie) Lee III of Elsie, Nebraska and Thomas Conrey Jr. of James Island, South Carolina and and great grandchildren Westley Likes, Lane Hampton. Jocelyn and Juliian Medina, and we have a little one not yet born, a girl, Medina is due next week.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Harold “Sonny” Hampton, her parents Rolland and Marion Conrey, her brother Cmdr. Thomas Conrey, her niece Kelly Ann Conrey, her mother and father-in-law Velma and Wayne Hampton, and her sister and brother-in-law Betty and George Lee Jr..


Visitation is Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel


Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. from the United Methodist Church with the Rev Curt Magleky Officiating


Internment Ogallala Cemetery, Ogallala, Nebraska.
