Lois May Larson, 97, of Ogallala, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Indian Hills Healthcare Community. Lois was born April 1, 1916 on a farm in Hamilton County, near Phillips, Nebr. She was the daughter of Clarence G. and Lena G. (Hough) Fleming. Her mother died in an influenza epidemic when Lois was only two years old. She attended Bluff's School in Hamilton County until the third grade. Her growing up years were in Chapman where she delivered the Grand Island Independent newspaper. Lois graduated from Chapman High School in 1933. On June 14, 1941 Lois married Leland McCrea in Toledo, Ohio. They returned to Nebraska and owned and operated the Texaco Station and Cafe for twenty years in Hampton. Leland died September 7, 1964. Lois began working in trailer sales for her friend Grace. Lois moved to the Lake McConaughy area and helped her friend Grace in the Blue Front Cafe. While living there she met William O. Larson and they were married November 29, 1969 at the Grand Island Baptist Church. The couple made their home at Lakeview near Lake McConaughy for over forty years. She was a member of the Chapman Baptist Church. She enjoyed her home, gourmet cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, fishing, being with family and friends and eating anything chocolate. Lois was an avid letter writer and enjoyed corresponding with her many friends and relatives. Preceding her in death were her parents, her two husbands, one sister Nell A. Vergo, brother-in-law John H. Vergo, one brother Kenneth C. Fleming, and a nephew Clarence O. Vergo. Survivors include one niece Lois (Maynard) Fullington of Palmer; nephews Roger (Ann) Vergo of Falcon, Colo. and Ron (Marcia) Vergo of Omaha; a nephew's wife Vicki Vergo, as well as special friends, including Clayton and Kathy Brunt and family of Schuyler. The family chose cremation. Services are pending and a memorial service will be scheduled in the Spring.
