Larry G. Dunwoody, 74, lifelong Ogallala resident, died Friday, March 18, 2016, in Indian Hills Healthcare Community. Larry was born Dec. 21, 1941 in Ogallala, the son of John and Marjorie (Cooney) Dunwoody. He attended Ogallala public schools. He was drafted into the Army on April 21, 1964 and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany. After discharge on April 5, 1966 he returned to Ogallala. Larry worked for an irrigation company as a truck driver. Larry was united in marriage to Carol Winder in 1966 and they made their home in Ogallala. In 1968 Larry became employed with the Holiday Inn as the head porter. In 1988 he began working for Bruce Jensen and ServiceMaster Cleaning. During this time he started his salvage business. Larry retired from ServiceMaster in 2000. Due to health concerns he sold the salvage business in 2013. He then moved to Indian Hills Manor. Larry was a member of the American Legion Post #135 for many years and served as Post Commander. He helped with bingo at the Legion Hall every Friday. Larry was a dedicated member of the Keith County Veterans Organization Honor and Color Guards. He enjoyed going to the Senior Center for meals and playing pool. He donated items needed at the Center, as well as, volunteered to travel with friends to medical appointments and other errands. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his daughter Dorothy (Larry) Clinesmith and his brother Dennis Dunwoody, three grandchildren: Nicole, Michelle, and Bradley and three great-grandchildren: Julien, Devan, and Landon, all of Ogallala. The family chose cremation. Friends may sign the register book at Draucker Funeral Home on Tuesday, Mar. 22, from 1 to 6 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Graveside Memorial Services will beWednesday, March 23, at 2 p.m., CDT, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
