LaMoin Meyer, 88, lifetime Perkins and Keith County farmer, died May 26, 2017, at his home.LaMoin was born September 27, 1928, south of Brule, Nebraska the son of Henry and Minnie Meyer. He attended country school district 17, as well as, Grant and Ogallala High schools.He attended Southeast Community College Vo-Tech at the Milford Campus in Milford, Nebraska, in 1949 before being drafted to serve in the Korean War in 1950. He trained at Fort Riley, Kansas before being shipped out from San Francisco to fight on the front lines on the Eastern Flank. LaMoin did forward reconnaissance for a year before his talent for fixing radios was noticed. He was transferred to Regimental Headquarters and promoted to Corporal in charge of radio maintenance for the 17th, 31st, and 32nd Heavy Tank Divisions.During his military service he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, as well as, Combat Infantry Badge, Korea Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, and the National Defense Service Medal.LaMoin returned to marry his sweetheart, Vera Conard, at Mackey Methodist Church in Mackey, Iowa in 1952.Shortly after the war, he continued working in electronics with a part-time TV repair and antenna installation business. LaMoin was also a ham radio operator. He farmed full-time with his family until his death.Preceding him in death was his wife Vera, daughter Patty Evans, daughter-in-law Barb Meyer and brother Marvin Meyer.Survivors include his children: Carlene (husband Kevin) Smith of Anaheim, CA, Ryal Meyer of Brule; Denise (husband Quentin) Farley of Lincoln; Rendale (wife Shaun) Meyer of Brule; son-in-law George Evans of North Platte; and thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.Friends may sign the register book and pay their respects on Friday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home.The funeral service will be Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, southwest of Ogallala, with the Rev. Wayne Pick officiating.Online condolences may be sent to webmaster@drauckerfh.com, or by signing the Guest Book. The service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend. A memorial has been established in his memory. Interment is in the Brule Cemetery with Military Honors by Keith County Veterans Organization.Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala is entrusted with the arrangements.
