Kandace Hazen, 49, of Brule, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at her home. Kandace was born August 26, 1964 in Ogallala, the daughter of George and Norma (Smith) Kurkowski. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1983. On June 10, 1983 Kandace married Lynn Hazen in Ogallala. The couple made their home in Brule. She was employed as a cashier at the Total Truck Stop in Big Springs for many years. Kandace was an avid Cornhusker football fan and enjoyed watching Nascar races. She especially liked spending time with her family. Preceding her in death were her parents and her father-in-law Lyle Hazen. Survivors include her husband Lynn Hazen and a son Alan Hazen, both of Brule; son Matt (Sara) Hazen of Lincoln; one daughter Nicole Hazen and a brother Lonnie Kurkowski, both of Ogallala. Mother-in-law Liz Hazen of Brule, and six grandchildren. The family has requested no visitation. Cremation was chosen. The memorial service will be Thursday, September 19, at 10 a.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. Rev. Jon Dickmander of the Brule St. Johns Lutheran Church will officiate. A memorial has been established to St. Johns Lutheran Church.
