Judy Lynn Hickenbottom, 64, of Ogallala, died on Sunday, March 1, 2026, peacefully in her home.
She was born May 11, 1961, to Shelton and Anna Denisse in Fort Carson, Colorado. She lived most of her life in Ogallala, Nebraska where she raised her children.
Judy exuded sophistication with beautiful long hair and high-class style. Not one to follow fashion trends or fads, Judy’s style was uniquely and unapologetically hers.
Her impeccable taste in music from Al Green to Jethro Tull made for a distinctive playlist all her own. Judy was a visionary, armed with artistic talent to bring the abstract to life. Beauty and creativity were second-nature, whether creating a piece of art or setting a table to host a meal for family and friends. She was an excellent cook and according to those in the know, made the best prime rib. Her respect for the outdoors and nature was always the core of her being the peace she found fishing and camping was always evident.
Judy chose to focus on the good in people. She made friends anywhere, everywhere. She had a magnetic energy, not only drawing humans to her but also her “Velcro cat,” Lucky, who was always by her side.
Judy’s life was not easy. She endured many tragedies, trials and tribulations - challenges sure to break one’s resolve. Yet bolstered with a stubborn and persistent spirit, she remained generous and kind despite the hardships.
Judy, a free thinker, lived by her own rules, and on her own terms. She listened to no one, urging them not to waste their breath. If she wanted something, she was going to fight for it. This sentiment was true to the very end.
The fight is now over and she can rest peacefully.
Survivors include her daughters; Jennifer Ciemiewicz and Gabrielle Rivas (Kyle Podowski); and a son, Isaiah Rivas (Stephanie Acosta); grandchildren Symon Dynowski, Olivia Benge, Indigo Rivas and Ivy Rivas; a brother, Dan Denisse; and sisters Sandra (Mike) Ewaszko and Patty Alvarez, and good friend Tom Bloomberg.
She was preceded in death by her father; Shelton Denisse; her mother, Anna Denisse; her daughter, Morgan Leigh Hickenbottom; and sons, Alex Hickenbottom and Marcus Hickenbottom.
Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Ogallala Cemetery.
