Joseph Edward Cullinan

Joseph 'Joe' Edward Cullinan, 84, of Bucktail, Nebr., died Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Indian Hills Healthcare Community in Ogallala. Joe was born October 8, 1930, to Harry H. and Florence (Heldt) Cullinan at their ranch in Bucktail, Nebraska. He attended schools in Arthur County, graduating from Arthur County High School in 1947. In August of 1949, he was united in marriage to Twylia Jones. They made their home in eastern Arthur County at the family ranch. Joe was a cattleman in every sense. He had an eye for cattle and was considered ahead of his time when it came to herd selection and marketing. He loved living in the country, especially on the ranch at Bucktail. He also served as Arthur County Commissioner from 1965 to 1987, and was highly respected as a county official. He also served on the Arthur County Fair Board, the Election Board, and the school board at District 12J. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers: Harry Jr. and Marvin Cullinan; three sisters: Dorothy Pueppka, Mildred 'Mid' Hoffman, and Mary Ann Glinn, and granddaughter DaNelle Daniels Dye. Survivors include two sons: Barry J. Cullinan of Arthur and Blaine (Joanne) Cullinan of Ogallala; two daughters: Becky (Kirk) Swanson of Arthur and Brenda Cullinan of Kansas City, Missouri. Three grandsons: Hank (Janene) Swanson of Veblen, So. Dak., Tory (JoDawn) Swanson and Brandon Swanson, all of Arthur. Two granddaughters: Courtney (Drew) Tarwater of Kansas City, Missouri and Alison Cullinan of Lincoln. Grandson-in-law Ryan Dye of Bucktail. Brother Robert 'Bob' Cullinan of Sarben; and sister Helen 'Honey' Dammann of McQueeney, Tex. Also Nine great-grandchildren: Sheridan, Brooklyn, and Carlie of South Dakota; Skyler, Landry, and Weston of Arthur; Jameson of Bucktail; and Emma and Hallie of Kansas City, Missouri. The family chose cremation. A private family service will be held at a later date. Online Condolences may be sent by signing the Guest Book.
