Johnny Washa, Jr., 69, longtime Keith County farmer, died May 5, 2013 in his home. Johnny was born November 27, 1943 in Ogallala, the son of John and Ruthcile (Potter) Washa. He attended rural elementary school and Ogallala High School, earning his GED later. In July of 1965 Johnny married Dorothy Hamer. The couple worked on the family farm south of Ogallala. Later Johnny became an owner/operator of a semi-truck. In 2007 he retired and continued to reside on the farm. His hobbies included watching soap operas on television and enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife. Johnny especially liked traveling, driving the open road, and every aspect of being a farmer. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a past member of the Ogallala Elks Lodge. Preceding him in death was his wife Dorothy in 1988, son Paul in 1966, and daughter Holly in 1991. Survivors include: His children: Roger Washa and his wife Tammy and Karen Washa, all of McCook , NE Becky Washa of Mesa, AZ One brother: Charles (Connie) Washa of Grant, NE Two sisters: Pauline (Loren) Railsback of Peoria, Ariz. Mary Ann (Robert) McEntee of North Platte. Four grandchildren: Brandon, Shea, Andrew, and Nick and several nieces and nephews. The family chose cremation. The Memorial Service will be Friday, May 10, at 10 a.m. in the Ogallala First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating. Inurnment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church.
