John Brott

John Brott 89, of Ogallala NE, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Ogallala Community Hospital. John was born April 20th, 1926 on the Brott farm near Madrid NE, the son of Henry and Anna E. (Lofing) Brott. He attended school through the 8th grade at School District #16 in Perkins County, NE. In March of 1945 John enlisted in the army at Fort Logan CO. He was stationed on the island of Luzon in the Philippines of the Pacific theatre during WWII. He was discharged on December 9, 1946 at Camp Beal, CA with the rank of T5. John was united in marriage to Marion R. Turtscher on December 4th 1949 in the St. Johns Lutheran Church southeast of Ogallala NE. The couple resided north of Roscoe, NE where they farmed for 43 years before moving to Ogallala, NE in 1992. As a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church since the age of 5 he served the church occupying all offices at one time or another as well as being Sunday School Superintendent and teaching Sunday school for many years. John was a member of the American Legion Post #0303 at Paxton and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3755 at Ogallala. Also active in volunteer work and community service John served on the Roscoe School Board for 12 years, the Keith County ASCS board for 8 years, the Ogallala Community Hospital board for 6 years and the election board for many years. John provided leadership as a board member of the Farm Bureau serving a term as President and also serving as 4-H leader. Johns hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing baseball with family, dancing and beating all takers in cards, especially pitch. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Rosie Powell, Caroline, Esther and Lillian Brott; brothers Harry, Henry Jr., Reinholdt, Leo and William Brott and son-in-law Tom Bowlin. He is survived by his wife Marion Brott of Ogallala NE, three daughters; Darlene (Clete) Petrzilka of Louisville NE, Diane Bowlin of Bennet NE, and Lisa (John) Flynn of Sutherland NE; two sons Kenneth (special friend Nel) of Ogallala NE and William (Grace) of Paxton NE. Sister Katherine (Ronald) Stuehm of Holdrege NE, brothers Walter Brott of Ogallala NE, Harvey (Jeanne) Brott of North Platte NE, and Marvin (Lillace) Brott of Chappell NE. Grandchildren: Julie (Todd) Donnelly and Brad Zaloudek of Louisville NE, Jerrold (Melissa) Brott of Elkhorn NE, Eric (Megan) Brott of Lincoln NE. Ryan (Ashley) Brott of Omaha NE. Tammy Bowlin of Loveland CO, Joe Bowlin of Fairbury NE, Tristan, Cora and Sarah Brott of Paxton NE, Tell and True Flynn of Sutherland NE as well as 9 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, September 16, at 11 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, southeast of Ogallala with Rev. Robert Pierce officiating. The family is concerned about the number of flowers that might be received. Memorial expressions may be made in the form of a donation to St. Johns Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour. The Service will be streamed live from drauckerfuneralhome.com for those unable to attend. Interment is in St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the Keith County Veterans.
