Jerry D. Hinton, 74, longtime Ogallala resident, died Sunday, June 28, 2015, in Perkins County Hospital in Grant. Jerry was born February 25, 1941 in Hyannis, NE, the son of Alta Hinton. He attended rural schools and then Ashby Elementary School. He graduated from Hyannis High School in 1959. He worked at various jobs, including being a hand at the Bunners Ranch near Whitman. In 1966 Jerry moved to Denver and was employed as a machinist at Morse Chain Co. Jerry met Sheryl Campbell on a blind date. They were married Aug. 30, 1968 and made their home in Denver. The couple moved to Ogallala in 1977 and then moved to Roscoe in 1978. He began working for the City of Ogallala street department in 1977, retiring in 2003. His hobbies included fishing and gardening. Jerry especially enjoyed watching his nieces' and nephews' sporting events. He was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his wife Sheryl 'Sherry' of Ogallala; two brothers Dennis Hinton of Exeter and Tom Egan of Ashby; two sisters: Connie (Ed) Starke of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Teresa (Harold) Johnson of Hyannis; and several nieces and nephews. The family chose cremation. Memorial Services was Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The service may be viewed by clicking the Video Tribute button below.. Rev. Linda Martin of the First Congregational, United Church of Christ will officiate. Memorials have been established to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Perkins County Community Hospital.
