James "Jim" Thomas

James "Jim" Thomas, 83, longtime Ogallala resident, died Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln. Jim was born March 7, 1931, in Ogallala, the son of Leon and Emma (Duffey) Thomas. Jim attended schools in Ogallala. In November 1948 he entered the Army and served in the Heavy Weapons Infantry Division in the Korean War. After discharge in 1951, Jim returned to road work, construction, and later, farming. He was united in marriage to Wyona Plummer and the couple made their home in Ogallala. Mr. Thomas was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and belonged to the Elks Lodge and the VFW. Preceding him in death was his wife Wyona , his parents, his son Terry J. Thomas, two brothers Howard Thomas and William Thomas, and a sister Jeanette Condon. Survivors include a daughter Jerri (Daniel) Chrisp of Lincoln, daughter-in-law Micky Thomas of Ogallala, a brother Michael (Lola) Thomas of Miami Beach, Flo., and a sister Kathryn Peterson of Edgar, Nebr. Three grandchildren: Melissa Thomas of Loveland, Colo., Christina Thomas and Avery Chrisp, both of Lincoln. Four great-grandchildren: Tameron, Markelle, and Lochlyn Thomas and Evan Schroyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 28, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 29, at 10 a.m. in the Ogallala Cemetery with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by Keith County Veterans Organization. A memorial has been established to St. Lukes Catholic Church in Ogallala.
