Jack Auringer

Jack Auringer, 82, of Ogallala, died April 29, 2013 in Welcov Assisted Living. Jack was born August 30, 1930 in Goodland, Kan., the son of Joseph and Inez Auringer. He attended school in Goodland. He entered the Marines on March 4, 1947. After being discharged in 1950 he moved to Denver. Jack worked various jobs before moving to Alaska where he was employed building the pipeline near Fairbanks. In 1953 he returned to Colorado where he met Gwendolyn J. Thornhill. They were married in Haxton, Colo. on September 5, 1954. The couple made their home in Englewood, Colo. Jack was employed at Gates Rubber Co. and retired in 1987. Jack moved to Ogallala in 2012 to be closer to his son. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Gwendolyn in 1999, and his brother Wayne Auringer. Survivors include his son Michael Auringer and his wife Gloria of Brule; a brother Ronald L. Auringer of Florida; a brother-in-law Jack Meakins of Greeley, Colo. Two grandsons: Jack D. Auringer of Lakewood, Colo.; Lupe Gonzales of Castle Rock, Colo. and one nephew. The family chose cremation. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
