Irma (Grauerholz) Anderson
Irma, 98, was born on March 17, 1926 to Rose (Burch) and Herman Grauerholz in
Sutherland, Nebraska passed on January 6, 2025, with her family by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Kirk Anderson of Paxton,
Nebraska 47 years ago; her parents; sisters Donna Batterman and Geraldine McCoy;
brothers Gerald (infant) and Herman, Jr.; and half-brothers Orlo Montgomery and Allen
Montgomery.
Irma leaves behind one sister, Nona Gries, and her children Constance
(Jürgen) Dähms, James (Kerri) Anderson, and Leslie (Wade) Rompel, along with much
loved and adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After moving to California from rural Nebraska when she was just 19 years old, she
lived in San Francisco while waiting for Jim to return from the war. They moved to the
suburb of South San Francisco to raise their family, and Irma lived there until 2006
when she moved to the Sacramento area to be near family.
Both Jim and Irma were charter members of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in South
San Francisco. Irma’s faith was a significant foundation for how she lived. She tried to
instill the importance of the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12) and honesty in her children,
and she found great comfort in Psalm 23 until the very end of her life.
Irma was a lifelong learner. She loved history but she also made a point of keeping up
with current events and even sports facts, music, and any other topics her grandchildren
might be interested in just so they could have meaningful discussions. She loved to
“get on the road” (as she would say) and drive throughout the State of California and
across the country. She enjoyed visiting National Parks and presidential museums. She
also did some international travel, but her favorite trips were to visit the monuments,
memorials, and museums in Washington, DC.
She will be forever remembered and loved by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala, Nebraska with Rev. Albert Bader officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Paxton Cemetery in Paxton, Nebraska where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
