Irma Cornelius, 99, longtime Ogallala resident, died Monday, December 1, 2014, in Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. Irma Ruth Cornelius was born July 12, 1915 north of Roscoe, the daughter of John and Margaretha (Gosch) Hahn. She went to school in Roscoe through the tenth grade. In May 1933 Irma graduated from Ogallala High School. She then was employed as a clerk at Publix Food Store and later at Kildare & Hassach, Buenz Drug Store, and Ogallala Bakery. Irma was united in marriage to Chancey Cornelius on September 25, 1949 and they made their home on a farm south of Ogallala. They were married for 65 years. Her hobbies included tole painting, gardening, cooking, fishing and traveling. Irma was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and belonged to the Dorcas Ladies Aid. Preceding her in death were two grandsons, two sisters, and three brothers. Survivors include her husband Chancey Cornelius and her son Terry (Donna) Cornelius, all of Ogallala, and her daughter Vickie Cornelius of Glendale, Ariz.; Six Grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, December 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, December 8, at 10 a.m. in St. Johns Lutheran Church, southeast of Ogallala, with Rev. Robert Pierce officiating. Interment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Alzheimers Association.
