Hilda D. M. Harris, 88, longtime Ogallala resident, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, in the Ogallala Community Hospital. Hilda Doris Margaretha Harris was born August 2, 1925 in Otoe County, NE, the daughter of John H. and Lydia M. (Neemann) Buchholz. She attended elementary school in Otoe and Cass County rural schools. Besides helping on the family farm, Hilda provided domestic care to new mothers and their babies. In 1942 she met David Kuenning and they were married on January 30, 1945. The couple began farming in 1945 near Unadilla, NE. In 1951 they moved near Wauneta, NE and Hilda was a homemaker. In 1958 they moved to Ogallala where Hilda was employed as a waitress at several cafes. She began employment as a solder machinist at TRW in December 1963, retiring in 1984. David passed away in May 1973. In March 1977 Hilda married Jack Harris. The couple resided in Ogallala and spent the winters in McAllen and Mission, Texas. Jack passed away in January 2005. Hilda's hobbies include camping, fishing, gardening, canning, sewing, and crocheting. She especially enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and nursing home and dancing. She was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church. Preceding her in death were two sisters: Mildred Werner and Ruth Payne and her husband Larry; one brother-in-law Fred Lutjemeyer; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children: Allen (Kathy) Kuenning of North Platte; Dennis (Connie) Kuenning of Craig, CO; Doris McVay (special friend Larry Young) of Roy, Utah; Barbara (Robert) Sejkora of Mesa, AZ, and Susan (Jerry) Logemann of Cheyenne, WY; her step-children: William Harris of Ogallala; Jacque Saari of McGregor, MN; and Burton (Brenda) Harris of Sidney. Also one brother Leonard (Letha) Buchholz of Syracuse, NE and two sisters: Luella (Richard) Meyer of Weeping Water, NE and Ruby Lutjemeyer of Syracuse, NE. Brother-in-law Kenneth Werner of Syracuse, NE. Seven grandsons: Travis (Gina) Kuenning of North Platte; Jess (Deanna) Kuenning of Meridian, ID; Heath (Liza) Sejkora of Gilbert, AZ; Michael (Lori) Logeman of Cheyenne, WY; Wayne Kuenning of Craig, CO; Jack Harris, Jr. of Sidney, NE; and Mathew (Ashley) Harris of Lincoln, NE. Eight granddaughters: Tara (Chad) Mahnken of North Platte, NE; Shauna Turpin of Ogden, UT; Vanessa (Jason) Penman of Roy, UT; Jami Kuenning of North Platte; Tonya (Jeremy) Stepp of Tempe, AZ; Michelle (Doug) Bullock of Boise, ID; Renee (Jason) Thomas of Cheyenne, WY; and Angela Borgrann of Sidney, NE and many great-grandchildren. The visitation will be Sunday, June 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. Rev. Bryan Ernest of St. Lukes Catholic Church will officiate. Interment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Keith County Senior Center.
