Gordon "Tex" Hinton

Gordon "Tex" Hinton, 87, longtime Keystone resident, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colo. Tex was born August 11, 1925 in Ashby, Nebr., the first son of Alton and Cecil (Dykes) Hinton and the fourth of nine children. He attended Ashby School while working for various local ranches and the railroad during the summers. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War, being honorably discharged in February 1953. He then served in the Army Reserves until April 1957. Upon returning from overseas, Tex went back to ranching in the Sand Hills and later in the Platte Valley. Tex met Delvene Christie in Mullen, Nebraska. They were married June 30, 1961 in Denver, Colorado. The couple made their first home in Colorado but returned to Nebraska in 1963. Here he continued ranching until his retirement in 1994 in Keystone, Nebraska. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters Alta Egan, Bonnie Timmens, and Ella Davis; brothers Alton Jr., Thomas, and Bud; daughter Kristie Leah Hinton in December 1984; and his beloved wife Delvene in December 2008. Survivors include daughter Donde (Michael) Alenius of Denver, Colo.; son Dan Hinton of Halton City, Tex.; brother Dean Hinton of Alliance; sister Juanita Peterson of Ogallala; granddaughter Amanda Alenius and her son Michael Alvarado, both of Elizabeth, Colo; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family chose cremation. Graveside Memorial Services for both Gordon and his wife Delvene who passed away Dec. 22, 2008, will be Friday, June 21, at 11 a.m. Central Time in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Army Chaplain Gary Smith will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Nebraska National Guard.
