Gene F. Holscher, 96, of Ogallala, NE passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Gene Fredrick Holscher was born on the family farm on December 22, 1929, the son of Fred W. and Anna (Riedel) Holscher. The youngest of four children, Gene was Baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church southeast of Ogallala, where he was a lifetime member.

Educated at rural School District #21 through 8th grade, Gene then attended Ogallala High (Class of 1947) and Kearney State College. After graduation from UNL in 1952, he continued farming with his father. Gene began an 18-year military career with Nebraska National Guard, enlisting in 1948 at Ogallala. After attaining the rank of Captain, he commanded the local unit and later served on the staff of the 168th FA Battalion. (Field artillery).

Gene married in 1954 to Dolores “Lore” Ebers, an immigrant from Hamburg Germany. They raised five children on the family farm southeast of Ogallala. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary in March 2026. In 1968, Gene joined the First National Bank in Ogallala as Agricultural Loan Officer. He retired after 26 years, serving the last year as President. After retiring from farming, Gene and Lore moved to town in 2008.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sister Adeline, brother Ed Holscher and wife Lois, sister Mayetta (Holscher) Johnson and husband Robert, son-in-law Randy Blessing and nephew Don Johnson. Also preceded in death by Lore’s parents Rudolf (Irma) Ebers and Lilly Ebers, and Lore’s siblings, Werner Ebers, Erwin Ebers, Inge Stier, Kathe Erlewine, and Rudolf Ebers (Jr).

Survived by wife Lore, son Michael Holscher, and daughters Diane (Ron) Haden, Julie Blessing, Mary (Mike) Ainslie and Carrie (Dana) Swisher, ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Peter Ebers, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Holscher 10 Grandchildren: Matt Haden (Linsey), Dan Haden(Maddie) Trent Holscher (Lindsay), Jessica Holscher Evans (Brent), Drew Blessing (Brittany), Derek Blessing (Becca), Katie Ainslie (Quinn Whitcomb), Rachel Swisher, Nickolas Swisher, Nathaniel Swisher, 14 great grandchildren Adelyn, Alexa, Cohen, Londyn Haden, Maddux, Scarlett, Dominic Evans, Dylan & Wyatt Holscher, Karson & Bryson Blessing, Malachi Blessing, Kooper Ainslie & Blake Whitcomb.

Memorial Services will be on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Heckmann of Zion Lutheran Church of Grant officiating.

Memorials have been established to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Keith County Community Foundation. Inurnment will be in St. john’s Lutheran Cemetery.
