Freida Coleman, 83, longtime Paxton resident, died Sunday, December 8, 2013 in the Sutherland Care Center. Freida was born May 31, 1930 in the family home in the Sandhills north of Paxton. Her parents were Ernest F. and Ola (Gordon) Miller. She was the second of seven children. As a youth Freida was baptized at Birdwood Creek. She attended grade school at the Rosedale School where her mother taught her during 7th and 8th grades. Freida graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Paxton High School. She then attended Kearney State College and attained her Teaching Certificate. She taught school for a number of years prior to her marriage. She was employed several places including Chrisp Telephone Co., Goodall Manufacturing, and also managed the Paxton Motel for eighteen years. Freida worked as postal clerk at various post offices in the surrounding area and became Postmistress at Paxton in 1990, retiring in 2000. On June 19, 1949 she married Harry Coleman, Jr. at Glen Echo Church in the Sandhills. The family loved to travel, camp, and participate in sporting events. She was a life-long member of Paxton United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for thirty years. She was very family oriented and raised her children in the love of the Lord. Her hobbies included recognizing special occasions, genealogy, reading, and traveling. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Lloyd and Cloyd, and a sister Fay Auftengarten. and one granddaughter Vicki Coleman. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, three sons: Randy (Norma) Coleman of Lincoln; Dirk (Gloria) Coleman of Orlando, Flo.; and Terry (Cindy) Coleman of Omaha. Eight grandchildren: Andrea Coleman, Allison (Jeff )Aernie), Arica Coleman, Philip Coleman, Marshall (Pam) Coleman, Felicia Coleman, Angela Coleman and Alicia (Giovanny) Quezada and four great-grandchildren. Two brothers: Floyd Miller of Sarben and Boyd Miller of Sutherland. One sister Francis (James) Stevens of Paxton. A sister-in-law Virginia Crook of North Platte, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family chose cremation. A memorial Service will be scheduled in January.
