Francis Luddington, 95, longtime Ogallala resident, died Friday, January 9, 2015, in the Ogallala Community Hospital. Francis was born February 23, 1919, in St. Paul, Nebr., the son of Frank and Terrace (Siegel) Ludington. As a young man he moved to Julesburg, Colo. where he graduated from High School. In 1940 Francis was united in marriage to Gwen Jacobs in Marysville, Kan. and the couple made their home in Grand Island. Francis was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1942 Francis entered the Army and served in Central Europe. After being discharged in 1946 he returned to Grand Island where he worked for the Railroad. The couple moved to the Lake McConaughy area where they built a new home and resided. Francis retired from the Railroad in the mid 1970's. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, dancing, and being out doors. Preceding him in death was his wife Gwen and son Terry, both in 2013, one brother Burt, and four sisters: Anna Peterson, Isabell Bates, Edith Dyke, and Margarite Anderson. Survivors include his daughter Susan and her husband Bill Peters of Lincoln and his sister Ida Mae Prince of Julesburg, Colo.; two grandchildren Brett Luddington of Lincoln and Lance Luddington of Aurora, Colo. and two great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be Monday, January 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. Central Time at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebr. with military honors by the North Platte Veterans. Rev. Lisa Hadler of the Ogallala First Congregational, United Church of Christ will officiate.
