Floyd Miller

April 5, 1928 — January 3, 2015

Floyd E. MIller, 86, of Paxton, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, after a brief illness. Floyd was born April 5, 1928 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Ernest and Anna Ola (Gordon) Miller. He was raised in the Sandhills north of Paxton. Floyd graduated from Paxton High School in 1947 and worked on the Harvey Lawler Ranch. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was discharged on December 18, 1952. Floyd moved to Grand Island in 1966 and was employed at the New Holland Manufacturing Plant. Following retirement he returned to Paxton where he continued working on various ranches in the Sandhills which he loved. He was a member of the Paxton American Legion. Floyd enjoyed raising coyote hounds and quarter horses and working with cattle. In his younger years Floyd participated in roping events and has attended many rodeos throughout his life. Preceding him in death were his parents, his grandson Shane, and his siblings Lloyd and Cloyd Miller, Freida Coleman, and Fay Aufdengarten. Survivors include his four children: Denise Larkin (special friend Bob Gentry) of Columbia, MO., Harvey (Sherri) Miller of Iowa City, Iowa; Valerie (Jay) Galvan of Burwell; and Byron Miller and (special friend Julie Zimmerman) and Julie's children Jane, Keith, and Calvin, all of Dannebrog. Eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Tim) Derryberry, Stephanie (CJ) Bevan, Jesse Miller, Schuyler Miller, Colby Miller, Casey Miller, Grant Galvan and Alec Galvan; and two great-grandchildren Grant and Landon. Former spouse Mona Bailey Miller; Two siblings: Frances (Jim) Stevens of Paxton and Boyd Miller of Sutherland; brother-in-law Harry Coleman, Jr. of Paxton; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. The family chose cremation. The Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 8, at 10 a.m. MST. in the Paxton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kolawole Akinnigbagbe officiating. Inurnment is in the Paxton Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #303. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Paxton United Methodist Church.
