Evelyn Elaine Lovercheck

Evelyn Elaine Lovercheck, age 86 formerly of Ogallala, NE died Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Brookdale Briargate Assisted Living in Colorado Springs, CO.

Evelyn was the second child of five children, born to Otto and Anna Sundquist on November 23, 1938, in Oakland, NE. Her life had a humble beginning, being born in a small home that had been remodeled to serve as a hospital. Evelyn was born into a family that thrived on patience, hard work, and abundant love - characteristics that became trademarks of Evelyn’s life. The majority of her childhood was spent on the family farm just outside of Lyons, NE.

Evelyn met her husband, Jim Lovercheck while attending college at Wesleyan University. Jim proposed to Evelyn during a surprise date to a drive-in movie, and they were married on the Sundquist farm in April 1958. The couple lived in multiple communities across the Nebraska landscape during the early years of their marriage, to include Weeping Water, Columbus, Gothenburg, and Lexington. Jim had various jobs in the electronics and service industries, and Evelyn landed multiple teaching positions at every stop. In 1967, the young family moved to their final landing spot together in Ogallala, NE.

Ultimately, Evelyn earned her Master’s Degree in Education with a Special Education minor and an endorsement in all areas of Special Education and in Special Vocational Needs from Kearney State College. Evelyn served as a teacher and ultimately the principal at the Educational Service Unit (ESU) #16. Her love, intelligence, and compassion shone through in every aspect of her professional career for over 40 years.

Evelyn loved music and spent long hours at the piano keyboard. Evelyn may not have been blessed with the best singing voice, but this fact did not stop her from joyfully singing at every opportunity. Her life revolved around her family and her faith, having been a lifelong member and faithful servant of the First United Methodist Church. Evelyn and Jim enjoyed nearly 55 years of blessed marriage until Jim passed in January 2013. Together, they had three children, ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Jim of Paradise, CA; Judy (Joe) of Winchendon, MA; and Jeff (Roxanne) of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandsons, Andy (Laurie) of Fitchburg, MA, Allan (Amanda) of Winchendon, MA, Aaron of Worcester, MA, Adam (Mel) of Leominster, MA, Jake (Courtney) and Josh of Paradise, CA; four granddaughters, Nicky of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth (Rob) of Colorado Springs, CO, Tiffany of New Ipswich, NH, and Jaz (Sam) of Winchendon, MA; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn (John) of Fishers, IN, and Julie of York, NE; and one brother, Ray of Sioux City, IA. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Anna; husband, Jim; one brother, Marvin, one brother-in-law, Dave; and one sister-in-law, Carol.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Curt Magelky officiating.
