Donald R. Mahaffey, 77, of Ogallala, died Sunday, February 1, 2015, in the Perkins County Hospital. Don was born June 17, 1937 in Sterling, Colorado, to Clarence A. and Grace (Gardiner) Mahaffey. He attended schools in Sterling, graduating in 1955. On March 16, 1957 at Scottsbluff, Don married Barbara June Colerick of Melbeta. The couple resided in Kimball where Don worked various jobs. In 1960 they moved to Ft. Collins, Colo. and Don was employed at Woodward Governors. They returned to Kimball in 1963. Don worked for various oilfield companies and also attended Auctioneering school, graduating in 1964. In the early 1970's Don started his own oilfield welding business called M&M Oilfield Services. In 1990 the couple moved to Gering and in 1994 moved to Greeley, Colo. to continue working in the oilfield. In 1999 he retired and the couple relocated to Ogallala where Don was employed by Moul's Modern Builders. His hobbies included going to auctions and garage sales and collecting antiques. Many weekends were spent hunting for great treasures. He enjoyed baking, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Barbara in 2009, infant daughter Lori, infant great-granddaughter Alisha, five brothers, and one sister. Don is survived by his daughters: Melanie (Pat) Nolan of Anchorage, AK, and Shelley (Rich) Anderson of Gering; and his son Scott (Mary) Mahaffey of Greeley, Colo.; and special son Mick (Davanne) Moul of Ogallala. Five grandchildren: Josh (Lacy) Hoff of Lemmon, SD, Jennifer (Craig) Gehring of McIntosh, SD, John Anderson of Gering, Amanda (Erik) Lesinski of Brighton, Colo, Tim (Brandie) Mahaffey of Greeley, Colo. Two special grandchildren: Lexi Moul Larsen of Nashville, Tenn. and Gatlin Moul of Minnesota. Four sisters: Betty Heuck, Mary Whitcomb, Rita Schuler, and Glenda McPhie. Also eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. At Don's request, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.
