Donald Lee Lage

Donald Lee Lage, 84, longtime Arthur County resident, died July 10, 2014, at his home. Don was born June 6, 1930, in Omaha, the son of Grant and Frances (Seltz) Lage. He attended elementary school at District 49 in Washington County, Nebr. After graduating from Fort Calhoun High School in 1947 he farmed with his father and did custom haying. In 1950 Don joined the Navy in San Diego, Cal. and served as a diesel mechanic. On December 30, 1950 Don was united in marriage to Lois Plambeck in Millard, Nebr. The couple made their home in San Diego. After Don was discharged in 1954 the couple returned to Fort Calhoun where he helped on the farm and did custom corn shelling. In 1966 the couple moved to Valley, Nebr. where Don continued to farm and also operated a trucking business. In 1970 Don sold his business and moved to the Sandhills where he worked on ranches. In 1991 Don retired and the couple moved into Arthur. He continued to manage their rental properties. He belonged to the Gideons and attended the Arthur Baptist Church and served as the youth group leader. Don taught Sunday School in Martin Bay Community Church for ten years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #207. Preceding him in death were two sons James and Steven. Survivors include his wife Lois Lage of Arthur; two sons: Roger (Donna) Lage of LaBroquerie, Manitoba, Canada and Ronald (Kristy) Lage of Arthur. Five daughters: Donelle (Glenn) Stewart of Almena, Kan.; Jeanine (Don) Baker of Brewster; Nancy (Gary) White of Hershey; Joanne (Blaine) Cullinan of Ogallala; and Margaret (Pat) Lyons of Pawhuska, Okl. One Sister: N. Ann Andersen of Milwaukee, Wisc. Also 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be Monday, July 14, at 11 a.m. in Arthur Baptist Church. Rev. Ben Keene and Pastor Bill Forbes will officiate. Memorials have been established to the Arthur Baptist Church and the Martin Bay Community Church. Interment is in the Arthur Cemetery with Military Honors by the Arthur American Legion Post #207 and the Keith County Veterans Organization.
