Dewey F. Dillon, 86, longtime Ogallala resident, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, in Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. Dewey Franklin Dillon was born March 23, 1929 near Pocahontas, Virginia. His parents were George and Bertha (Head) Dillon. Dewey received his education in Pocahontas and was raised in Tazewell County, Virginia. On August 24, 1948 Dewey was united in marriage to Ruby Jean Hess. The couple resided in Tazewell County for two years and Dewey worked in the coal mines. In the early 1950's they moved to Circleville, Ohio where Dewey worked for the John W. Ashland Feed Company for the next five years. In 1958 they moved to Ogallala, Nebraska where Dewey worked as a mechanic and truck driver. He began employment with Armour Block Plant in 1961 and later worked at a service station in Big Springs for one and a half years. Dewey and Ruby moved to Omaha where Dewey worked as a mechanic for Rosen-Novak dealership for six months. They returned to Ogallala and he managed the Tomahawk Mini Mart from 1972 to 1974. He was employed at Goodall Electric and Holiday Inn a short time before working for the City of Ogallala water department for fourteen years. He retired in 1994. Dewey was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge. His hobbies include woodworking, fishing, reading, and electrical work. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Ruby in June 2000, three sisters: Magdalyn, Ruby, and Margaret, and eight brothers: Gordon, Tom, Nathaniel, Roger, Georgie, McKinley 'Son', Howard, and Grover. Survivors include two sons: Lawrence (Pam) Dillon of Hay Springs, and Mark (Margaret) Dillon of Hershey; two sisters: Mary Wiley of Springville, Virginia and Pearl (Bernard) Phipps of Bramwell, West Virginia; and three grandchildren: Melissa Purdy of North Platte, Steve Dillon of Hershey, and Thim Dillon of Broken Bow and several great-grandchildren. There was cremation. Graveside Services will be Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. in the Ogallala Cemetery. John Blomstedt, Jr. of Hershey will officiate. A memorial has been established to the Ogalalla Masonic Lodge #159 AF & AM. Online condolences may be sent by clicking on the Guest Book link.
