Dennis Powell, 70, of Ogallala, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Dennis was born June 25, 1944 in Grant, Nebr., the son of Sterling and Ella Mae (maiden name: Ray) Powell. He graduated from Grant High School in 1962. Dennis attended McCook Junior College for a year and a half . In 1964 he married his high school sweetheart Karen S. Ronneker at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant. On July 26, 2014, they celebrated fifty years of marriage. The couple made their home in Imperial and Dennis was employed at the family business Powell Motors. The business was sold in 1981 and then they purchased Broadway Liquor Store in Imperial. In the summer of 1989 the couple moved to Ogallala where Dennis was employed as a salesman for Schmidt Motors. In 1991 Dennis began work with Hipp Wholesale Distributing. He then worked for Cash Wa Distributing from 2002 until retiring in 2011. Dennis' great pride was his family and traveling to his grandchildren's sports events. His hobbies included building hot rod cars and street rods and was considered a genuine gear head and belonged to the Nebraska Rod & Custom Association (NRCA). He enjoyed watching Huskers football and Rockies baseball. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife Karen Powell of Ogallala, son Tim Powell and his wife Rolanda of Kenesaw; daughter Tricia and her husband Mark Kubik of Aurora. A sister Phyllis and her husband Jerry Hettinger of Denver, Colo,. Two grandchildren: Kaylee and Alex Kubik. Step-grandson Rich Rennick and his family. The family chose cremation. The Memorial Service will be live streamed at the Ogallala First United Methodist Church, on Monday, August 25, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating.
