Dean Simpson

Dean Simpson, age 83, of Yucca Heights of Lake McConaughy passed away on Friday April 7, 2017 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant . Dean Simpson was born on May 24th, 1933 to Alva and Pearl (Robinson) Simpson. He grew up on the family ranch attending the rural grade school and is a 1950 graduate of Arthur County High School. In 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Norma Lyons. They made their home on the Simpson ranch where they raised three children. Dean served six years in the National Guard and was named guardsman of the year. Dean and his brother Robert, operated the family ranch for many years. In the early seventies until Dean quit ranching and operated the Arthur Locker Plant for about a year and a half. He then went to work for Schultz Ford in Ogallala for about a year before opening his own mechanic shop called Quality Service. During this time, he built their home at Lake McConaughy. After selling his shop in 1978, he did carpentry work for a while before starting his own nursery and tree moving business, Dean's Tree Transplanting Service. He ran his tree business until 2008 when he retired. In 1990, Dean made the choice to serve Jesus and this became the most important thing in his life. He inspired so many people with his love for the Lord. Dean was also a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and he will be deeply missed by each one of them. Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Norma; son Leroy and wife Becky of Paxton; Daughter Eileen and Husband Lee Williams of Sidney, NE; Grandson Michael and wife Jennifer Simpson of Cheyenne, WY; Granddaughter Stefanie and husband Cesar Juarez of Cheyenne, WY; Granddaughter Shawna Queen of Loveland, CO; and four great grandchildren Owen, Paige, Mya, and Juliana; sister Opal Bridwell; sister-in-law Irene Simpson, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Robert, three sisters, Vera Griffith, Verna Cinnamon, and Lila Piihl, and son Randy. Visitation for Dean will be held at the Draucker Funeral Home,on Tuesday April 11th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 12, at 10:00 am from the Draucker Funeral Home, with Stanley Morrison, Leslie Poutney, Julie Harthorn andV irginia Kleep, officiating. Burial will take place in the Ogallala Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Keystone-Lemoyne Fire Department. The Funeral will be live streamed for those unable to attend.
