Dave Leroy Thompson

David Leroy Thompson, 68, of Paxton, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026.

Born on May 27, 1958, in Ogallala. David lived a full life defined by hard work, a love for family, and his faith in God.

David graduated from Brule High School and went to attend Chadron State College where he met the love of his life, Emily. They were married on June 9, 1979, and made their first home together in Brule, where David worked on Frates farm. They later moved to Ogallala, where he worked for the Ogallala Livestock Auction Company for several years before deciding it was time for a change. The family moved to Denver, Colorado, where David attended an automotive training to pursue a career in the trades.

After completing his training, David and Emily settled in North Platte, Nebraska, where he built a respected career as an Automotive Technician. He worked at the Bob Spady dealership and later at the Jerry Remus dealership, earning multiple ASE certifications along the way. He eventually became the certified Toyota and Mazda technician at the Premier Toyota dealership. In late 2000, David made another career change, taking over his uncle’s boot and shoe repair business, where he continued working until his passing. He was a man who enjoyed working with his hands, and it showed in everything he did.

David enjoyed playing golf with friends in his younger days, spending time outdoors, and exploring new places. He always wanted “to get out of town” to see new and old places. More than anything, he treasured time with his family, especially days spent at the lake with his grandchildren.

A devout Christian and faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran church in Ogallala, David carried his faith with him throughout his life. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace with his Lord and Savior.

He will be greatly missed by his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Douglas, and uncle Ed VanVelson.

He is survived by his wife Emily, his son Josh (Jill) Thompson, of North Platte, daughter, Sara Spratt, of North Platte, granddaughter’s; Hannah and Adalynn Spratt, of North Platte, grandson’s; Dillon (Emily) Thompson, of North Platte, Wyatt Thompson, of North Platte, Cameron Thompson, of North Platte, Eban Spratt, of North Platte, Jaxson Spratt, of North Platte and a great granddaughter, Josephine Foust.

Memorial services will be on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at the St. John's Lutheran Church Southeast of Ogallala with Rev. Carter Thorman officiating.

Inurnment will be on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Ogallala Cemetery.
