Darwin L. Hartman

Darwin L. Hartman, 86, lifetime Arthur County resident, passed away at his homeTuesday, July 5, 2016. Darwin was born February 25, 1930 in Ogallala, Nebr., the only child of Howard and Pauline (Fulcher) Hartman. He graduated from Arthur County High School in 1951. On September 12, 1951 Darwin married his high school sweetheart Shirley Kiester at Ogallala. He was an active member of the Wesleyan Church for many years until its closing. His life's work was being a rancher. Other jobs he worked at was County Maintainer, painter, carpenter, car salesman, among others. He didn't know a stranger and loved to visit with people of all ages. His first loves were his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his pets. Darwin was greeted at the gates of Heaven by his parents and a son Rodney Lynn. Survivors include his wife Shirley of Arthur and his daughter Lisa (Tim) Lawson of Hayes Center, Nebr.; five grandchildren: Ashley Lewis of Brady, Austin (Penny) Lawson, Alex Lawson, and Allyson Lawson, all of Hayes Center; and Adam Lawson of Brule; and six great-grandchildren: Kollin and Kyler Lewis of Brady; Hailey, Aaron, Brent, & Emma Lawson of Hayes Center; and his dog Abby. Other survivors include many cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The visitation will be Thursday, July 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Arthur Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will be Friday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in the Arthur Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Keene officiating. Interment is in the Arthur Cemetery. Because of Darwin's love of animals memorials are suggested to the Perkins County Animal Shelter, Arthur Baptist Church, or to the charity of donor's choice. Online Condolences may be sent by signing the Guest Book. The service will be live streamed, for those unable to attend. Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
