Charles E. Stumpenhorst, 90, of Ogallala, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Indian Hills Healthcare Community. Charles was born December 26, 1923 in Blue Hill, Nebr., the son of Edward and Rosa (Siebrass) Stumpenhorst. He attended Trinity Parochial School in Blue Hill and graduated from high school in 1942. Charles attended welding school in Omaha and then worked in the Tacoma, Wash. ship yards. Later he served in the Army during World War II. After discharge on December 17, 1946, he moved to Ogden, Iowa with his family. On May 18, 1947, he married Gwynneth Heldt in Boone, Iowa. The couple farmed until September 1953 when they moved to Lakewood, Colorado due to health problems. In Colorado they owned two television shops and later Charles was an electronics manager in the Jefferson County School District. He retired in 1989 and the couple moved to the Lake McConaughy area and resided in their lake home for many years. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Vera Youngren, and a sister-in-law Ruth Stumpenhorst. Survivors include his wife Gwynneth, a sister Eldora (John) Heineman of Ogden, Iowa; a brother Marvin Stumpenhorst of Boone, Iowa, a brother-in-law Dean Youngren of Ogden, Iowa; and a brother-in-law Edmund (Val) Heldt of Boone, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Cremation was chosen. The Memorial Graveside Service will be Friday, August 8, at 11 a.m. Central Time at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebr. with military honors by Keith County Veterans Organization. Rev. Jon Dickmander of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Brule will officiate. Memorials have been established to St. Johns Lutheran Church of Brule and to the Lutheran Hour.
