Carol Kay Mcclung

October 31, 1939 — July 2, 2017

Carol "Kay" McClung, the daughter of Leland E. and Pauline (Mumm) Forell was born on October 31st 1939, at their farm home in Garden County. She grew up on a farm in the Goodview community and attended Goodview Consolidated School and graduated from Lodgepole High School in 1957. She attended Kearney State College where she was a member of Zeta Chi Alpha, a Wagoneer, and received her associates degree in business. She worked as a clerk at the ASC office in Chappell and during this time she met the love of her life, Calvin Whitney McClung. On October 29, 1961, they were married in the First United Methodist Church in Chappell, NE. They farmed and ranched south of Big Springs. Kay was honored to be a homemaker, taking pleasure in caring for and raising their family. She was a meticulous house keeper, who took great pride in decorating their family home. She brought so much joy to others throughout the community with her exceptional cooking and baking skills. If she was not busy in her kitchen, you could find her outside among her flowers or mowing the lawn. Flowers were one of Kay's many passions. She kept an immaculate flower garden and a beautifully manicured lawn. In the community, Kay was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Big Springs, where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was also an active member of the UMW, PEO, Friendship club, and the Young Matrons club. She was on the Deuel County Fair board serving proudly for eight years. Kay's grandkids were the apple of her eye and she loved to attend their various activities such as sporting events, award ceremonies and 4-H shows. She enjoyed passing on the love of cooking and baking, along with Christian values and family traditions. Everyone that was blessed by her life was filled with much love, laughter, adventure, kindness, and unwavering friendship. She will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her steadfast faith, and delicious pies. She leaves us rich with memories of her love. We will always remember to put on a little color on our lips, and we can never have too many shoes. Preceding her in death were her parents, parents-in-law Lola and Dan McClung, brother-in-law Ron Evelyn, nephew Bradley Evelyn, niece Joy Evelyn, and nephew Douglas Sorensen. Survivors include her husband Calvin and two sons: Steve (Kristi) McClung and Michael (Deborah) McClung, all of Big Springs; a daughter DeAnn (Jeff) Beck of Elwood; three sisters: Lorna Evelyn of Kimball, Pat (Rex) Wilson of Grant, and Barbara (Jim) Hixon of Big Springs; and five grandchildren: Kailin and Stephanie, Timothy and Mathew, all of Big Springs and Marissa of Elwood.
