Albert Claude Stroup

December 28, 1936 — August 21, 2014

Albert Claude Stroup Jr., 77, of Ogallala, went to be with the Lord on August 21, 2014, after battling a long illness. Al was born December 28, 1936, in Benkelman, Nebr., the son of Albert, Sr. and Nellie M. (Huggins) Stroup. He attended grade school in Benkleman until the death of his father in 1947. The family then moved to St. Francis, Kan. where he attended high school and was active in sports. Al's mother passed away in 1953 and he chose to continue to reside in St. Francis until graduating from high school. He then received his teaching degree in McCook, Nebr. and taught grade school several years. After obtaining a Bachelor's Degree from Kearney State College he taught high school math and history in several Nebraska towns. He also coached high school athletics. After retiring from teaching in 1985 Al purchased and operated a bowling alley in Utica, Nebr. and remained there until moving to Ogallala in 1995. Al was employed mowing grass at the golf course for several years. He volunteered at the Keith County Food Pantry for a few years. Al's hobbies included golfing, bowling, and playing keno and poker. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include two sons: Neil Stroup of Ogallala and Tracy and his wife Lisa Stroup of Lincoln; and two daughters: Maria Morava of Ogallala, and Kristi and her husband Marty Schirmer of Kearney. Also eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Nona Maxine Matthews of Brighton, Colo. and Gloria Val Jean Lambert of Springfield, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. The family chose cremation and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established and may be sent to the family, (in care of) Draucker Funeral Home.
